Waikawa

On Wellington Anniversary Day this week we headed to Waikawa Beach (just South of Levin). Trish had this great idea of starting a annual picnic day as she had wonderful memories of picnic's here as a child.

Maddie in her togs

Jules in her togs.

Waikawa Beach is a great venue for families and I can't believe that I've never heard of it before! it's a sandy banked river with a slow current. The river is tidal and was flowing away from the beach so no chance of anyone being swept away!

How to keep three little girls amused for a long time. Dig a hole and put water in it!

This is Wayne piggy backing Trelise across the river to look at some crabs at the river's edge. They were so amused by them that they stayed for ages. I wondered if they were going to come back!

When you are sick of digging with your sand shovel - what to do?

Hit your sister with it!

The river is only a short walk to the beach. The kids all had a fantastic day. They were all busy - not one I'm bored! Of course my lot all fell asleep as soon as the car was moving to come home!

We are looking forward to next years picnic.

What a great day! I'm enjoying your weather through the internet while it's cold and foggy and wet and definitely winter here.

Love those dotty swimsuits!
